The River Clyde, which is where Ken hails from, has been a centre for shipbuilding for hundreds of years. While boats were being built in the area possibly as early as the 15th century, it was the advancement of the steam engine in the first half of the 19th century which saw a huge expansion of shipbuilding on the Clyde. The capabilities of the shipyards and engineering works progressed and turned the area into the shipbuilding capital of the world.
The yards of the Clyde have built many thousands of ships over the years, including many notable vessels such as PS Comet, RMS Lusitania, HMS Hood, RMS Queen Mary & Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2).
The term ‘Clyde built’ was coined, and became synonymous with strength, quality and innovation; at Clyde Built Solutions we strive to ensure that everything we produce is worthy of the name.
